Dear Cowan Clan,
So, I was asked to write my family just as the other Elder Cowan! Today has been everything I expected. I really am not shocked one bit. But tomorrow may be a different story. My companion is Elder Letham from Gilbert, AZ! He's home schooled, but we already know how to teach together somewhat! My district is made up of five companionships. All elders and no sisters. Half of us are from AZ! And Spanish? Well, so far I'm the district translator. Everyone looks to me to tell them what people are saying.
Anyway, the real purpose to this letter is to tell you, my family, how much you mean to me. I really appreciate everything you've done for me, especially since I needed all the help possible to get out here! And all you've done to prepare me spiritually. The MTC is just one big "spiritual party." That's what I told my teacher today and she 100% agreed with me. Today I witnessed the Lord's hand in this missionary work. The gift of tongues is real. My teacher told me that I have surprised her so much. She said that I am gifted with languages and that I'm already farther ahead than the above average elders.
Tonight we had mock investigators as a group of 250 new elders. I was getting so frustrated in my mind and in my heart because they wouldn't accept the teachings and testimonies of the missionaries who spoke. I am praying for patience and the ability to teach with the spirit to touch the people's hearts. I know that this work progresses by the abundant spirit. The MTC is a place like none other on earth. I love it here. I can't wait to make it to the field, though, where the field is white.
My testimony is simple, but profound. I love my Savior. I know that he atoned for everyone's sins including my own. Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His son Jesus Christ in the grove of trees. It was through him that this gospel could return once again to the earth. Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet of God. Through his direction, I'll follow the straight and narrow with ease. I love this work. I love my companion, district and zone. I love the MTC. But most importantly, I love my older brother, my redeemer, Jesus Christ. I love you all and you will be in my prayers.
Love,
Elder Cowan
